After our wonderful surfing excursion,we returned to Brisbane to visit our friends. John and Cath were our neighbors in Washington DC. Cath is native Australian and largely responsible for convincing us to come to Perth 5 years ago. We met Cath and John in a birthing class while preparing for the births of Daley and their daughter, Ruby Rose.
Daley and Ruby have known each other since they were just days old but haven't seen each other since they were 3. Ruby was Daley's "first" friend. We wondered if they'd still get along. No worries. It took them about 5 minutes before they were scurrying off to Ruby's room to compare books they've enjoyed. Sode and their son Louie (6 years old) took a little longer to connect, but were teasing each other and playing happily by the next morning.

Daley wrote an "appearance" of Ruby in her journal: She is adventure. She is change. Large brown eyes are deep pools of dark chocolate. Long silky brunette hair tumbles down to her shoulders like a waterfall. Below a slender nose, a grinning smile creeps across her face. She wears her blue starched school uniform and matching navy shorts. Encircling her wrist is the orange and red friendship bracelet I just made.
The highlight of our two nights in Brisbane was the talent show featuring all the kids. Daley, Ruby and Louie performed solo pieces on their instruments (recorder, violin and cello, respectively). Sode performed a feat of physical skill - jumping rope to Boo's drumming. And Clint T sang. Then they all joined in an ensemble performance of "Hot Cross Buns,"with Sode and Clint on vocals, Daley on recorder, Ruby on violin and Louie on cello. It was priceless.
I'd share the video, but haven't figured out how yet. . . Perhaps you're glad.

Dear Daley,
Your adventures sound sooooooooo exciting. When my mom showed me your blog, I wish I were there with you. Are you going to write more? I hope so. The weather in Australia look so much nicer than the weather here in California. It is rain'n hard here. Let's say it this way, you can barely even sleep! (exadgeration) Well, have to leave. Hope you will have many other amazing adventures in Australia. Good-bye for now.
Your friend,
Marlene
P.S. Max copied my first sentence. I lowered the amount of oooooo's

I can't believe you did a talent show. I could never stand up and play my instrument in front of all those people!

Good job with the surfing, but Boo should work on it a little bit more.
